Ritvan Leknikaj
Ritvan, a refugee from Eastern Europe, hobbled into the interview still limping from a gunshot wound. He progressed from a music technology and personal development course to our Music Biz & Beyond project. The Ideas Foundation introduced Ritvan to radio, management, live gig production, legal, styling and other avenues into the industry.
Using radio, the students tackled social issues such as ‘violence on the Grime Scene’. They edited the material at London College of Communications. Lecturers were impressed to see such quality from young people previously labelled as “disaffected low achievers”. Ritvan and another trainee were offered places on the Media Foundation Course.
A year ago Ritvan was in a hostel with severely limited opportunities but undiscovered creativity. Now he is an ambitious LCC student.
