Venture to the Deep

What IF we can take creativity to new depths?

Richard Garriott, explorer, adventurer, video-game inventor set himself a challenge. He is now the first person ever to have:

- orbited the earth as an astronaut, and
- dived to explore the wreck of the Titanic, and
- set foot on the North Pole, the Equator and the South Pole, and, in February
- dived to the deepest part of the world’s oceans, the Mariana Trench

Lend Me Your Words to Take to the Bottom of the Ocean.

Richard dived to 7 miles below the surface enclosed in a specially-constructed small submarine. Inside, he had very little space to move and to operate the submarine’s propulsion system, cameras, probes and communications. That’s a very small space with a lot of clever stuff in it! In such a small space he had to be very organised and disciplined.

Richard asked you to provide him with some succinct, compressed poetry (a 5 line cinquain) about the oceans, creativity and or exploration. See the Winning Cinquains Gallery elsewhere on this page to read the entries he selected and took with him on his adventure. You can be find out more about Richards’ mission here
